Armillary Dial (c. 1700)

Dial shaped as an armillary sphere in a stand with horizon-ring. The meridian-ring enables adjustment to geogr. latitude, and inside this ring is a rotating celestial sphere with ecliptic, tropic- and polar-circles. The ecliptic bears a movable ring, adjustable to date, with diopter and hour-scale. We move the instrument, which is standing on a horizontal plane, until the light of the sun falls through both diopters. The meridian index points to true local time (correction for the obliquity of the hour-circle on the ecliptic).
