Mariners Astrolabe (1632)

Not a real astrolabe, the instrument has as its only purpose the finding of the geographic latitude by measuring the altitude of the sun at noon or the altitude of the polar-star. The reconstruction follows an original instrument which perished in World War I, made and signed by ┬źNicollas Le Tellier a Honnefleur, 1632┬╗. The instrument was made from brass pierced or fretted out to reduce wind resistance.
